The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has taken strong objection to the recent actions of Congress leader Ajay Maken, accusing him of weakening the unity of the opposition alliance, Bharat Abhiyan. AAP’s Sanjay Singh has issued an ultimatum demanding that the Congress take action against Maken within 24 hours, failing which the AAP will consult other allies about removing the Congress from the alliance.

Tensions have escalated after the Delhi Congress released a 12-point “white paper” criticising the AAP and the BJP for unfulfilled promises and mismanagement on issues such as pollution, civic amenities and law and order. AAP leaders, including Sanjay Singh and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, have accused Maken of acting at the behest of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and demanded immediate disciplinary action against him.

This internal conflict is a major challenge to the cohesion of the Bharat Abhiyan, especially with the upcoming Delhi elections. The situation remains dynamic, with potential implications on the alliance’s future strategies and cooperation.

Top party leaders, including Chief Minister Atishi, on Thursday (December 26, 2024) said that if the Congress did not take action against Delhi Congress leader Ajay Maken, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would talk to other parties in the Bharat Bloc to remove the Congress from the alliance.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday (December 26, 2024), senior AAP leader in Delhi Sanjay Singh alleged that the Congress was doing “everything that will help the BJP in the (assembly) elections”.

“Delhi Congress leader Ajay Maken ji reads the BJP script and makes statements on the instructions of the BJP and targets the AAP. Yesterday he crossed all limits by saying that Mr Kejriwal is “anti-national” and further cases were filed against him.” He said that for the Lok Sabha elections, Mr Kejriwal campaigned for the Congress in Delhi as well as Haryana.

“Now we feel that the Congress statements are coming from the BJP office,” Mr Singh alleged. Mr Singh said, “We demand that Congress take action against Ajay Maken within 24 hours, otherwise we will demand other parties of Bharatiya Janata Party to remove Congress from the alliance.”
