On January 6, 2025, eight jawans and a driver were martyred in an IED blast carried out by Naxalites in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.

The incident took place on the Kutru-Bedre road at around 2:15 pm when the Dantewada District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel were returning after a joint operation.

The intensity of the explosive used in the attack was such that the vehicle bounced in the air and broke into pieces.

Earlier, on January 5, 2025, four Maoists were killed in an encounter between security forces and Maoists in the Abujhmad area, while Head Constable Sannu Karam of Dantewada DRG was martyred.

Incidents of Naxalite violence have been going on in Chhattisgarh for a long time, in which the security forces have suffered heavy losses. Recently, on April 26, 2023, 10 policemen and a driver were martyred in an IED blast in Dantewada district.
