Sitamarhi: Security tightened on Nepal border, special campaign launched to stop smuggling

Sitamarhi, Bihar – The administration has tightened security to stop the increasing incidents of smuggling on the India-Nepal border. A special operation is being carried out on the Nepal border in Sitamarhi district, involving the Border Security Force (SSB), local police and intelligence agencies.

Efforts to curb smuggling:

The campaign has been launched to stop the increasing smuggling on the border, which includes narcotics, counterfeit currency, weapons, and human trafficking.

Checking points: Additional checking points have been set up in border areas.
Drone surveillance: Sensitive areas are being monitored with the help of drones.
Border patrolling: Border patrolling has been increased by SSB jawans.
Recent recoveries:
Several major recoveries have been made during the campaign in the last one week:

50 kg of ganja and other narcotics.
Two suspects arrested with fake Indian currency.
Vehicles being used for smuggling seized.
Administration statement:

The Sitamarhi District Magistrate said, “This campaign is important to stop smuggling on the Nepal border. Security has been increased in the border areas, and action is being taken based on intelligence inputs.”

The SSB Commandant said, “The soldiers have been put on high-alert to increase vigilance on the border. Immediate action is being taken on any suspicious activity.”

Involvement of local people:
The administration has also appealed to the local people to immediately inform the police or SSB about smuggling or suspicious activities. A helpline number has also been issued for this.

Challenges of smuggling:
Since Sitamarhi district shares its border with Nepal, this area is considered sensitive for smugglers. Stopping smuggling is challenging due to the open border and hilly terrain.

Local reaction:
Residents of border villages have welcomed this move of the administration. A local resident said, “Crime was increasing in our villages due to smuggling. This campaign will give us relief.”

The administration has indicated that this campaign will be run for a long time. Under this:

The use of modern equipment will be increased on the border.
The intelligence system will be strengthened to break the smuggling network.
Joint action will be taken in coordination with the Nepal government.
